SURFACE PREPARATION

Leewens Corporation believes that one of the most important parts of any quality installation is proper surface preparation. Surface preparation is the foundation of your coating job whether it be over steel, concrete, plywood or any other surface. This important first step ensures a clean, sound, properly profiled surface. Without proper surface preparation a strong bond between the substrate and the coating will not be established.

The most common types of preparation equipment used are Shotblasting, Scarifying, Ultra High Pressure Water Blasting, Sandblasting, Grinding, Spongeblasting, Chemical Cleaning and Etching. Most of these methods can be performed dust free, through containment, dust collection, negative air or wet process.

Improper surface preparation is the most common cause of coating failure.
On concrete, all laitance, curing compounds, bond breakers, and impurities must be removed in addition to roughening.
On steel, mill scale must be removed, impurities washed away, rust removed to near white or white metal, and an appropriate anchor pattern established for good bond.

Leewens Corporation has a wide range of dust free preparation equipment. We are experienced in erecting temporary containment enclosures for dust control in clean rooms and other dust sensitive areas, with negative air, exhaust to outside, and dust collection. Much of our equipment can be used with water for dust control.
